Incomplete?

This picture is a self portrait. My wedding photographer captured a photo of me twirling in my wedding dress and it is one of my favorites. This painting is of just that moment! I can't decide whether I want to paint my face on it. . When I tried I ended up looking like the Joker (from batman) hah! Not the look I was going for. Not my usual painting style, but something new I had to try!

Tangled

I took a picture of a few blooming roses I saw in my friend Tracy's yard. My sister Kristen said it reminds her of the movie Tangled because of the tall tower-like flowers and the floating lanterns in the back. Originally they were meant to be fallen leaves in the background. I like how the leaves/lanterns can be interpreted as either drifting away or getting closer. Makes for an interesting back drop for these flowers. I think this painting would be perfect in a little girls room! Not exactly something for my four crazy little nephews! : )

For my Moo!

A Christmas present for my Moma! This was supposed to be a surprise, and I'm still not sure if it's finished, but since they came over to California to visit they saw it and loved it! I can't wait to see this hanging up in their new home. I think the colors will look great!

A Christmas present for my lovely sister Kristen

I painted this as a gift for my sister Kristen. I had fun using warmer colors and a new sponge technique with this piece. It's a 24x18 and will look perfect her living room!

Uplifting flowers

I recently saw a poster with this design at the Sacramento airport and loved the flowers on branches design. So simple and uplifting I think, so I gave it my own twist. I took a picture of the poster to show how I got my inspiration. And yes sissy Krissy, I love to paint one for you in reds : ) I'll make it match your living room! Love you!

How dare you call it a weed!

My original picture above, and my artistic interpretation of the scene below. (Acrylic paint)
These beautiful FLOWERS grow in front of my parents new home. Don't you dare call them weeds, I hope they stay in the yard forever! They are so pretty!

Hummingbird Morning

The biggest painting I've done so far, this 24x30 is of a hummingbird in the morning.

A new technique

I experimented with a few new techniques last night. A new paint brush, dripping the oil paints down the canvas with water and adding texture to simulate the look of feathers. This painting was fun and has me excited to keep trying new techniques! It looks like a bird taking shelter in a rain storm to me. . what do YOU see?

Tropical Set

The focal point of our big blue wall! Charlie picked a great color, it works great as the backdrop to my oil paintings.

Older Crafts

My sister Kristen and I crafted this fun piece from multiple canvases, paint, and fabric!

I began this piece of the native woman in high school with tracing paper and graphite. Now it has evolved to watercolor on clear gloss paper.

Oil Paintings

I am having so much fun with my new oil paints! These are small to medium size paintings on flat canvas, to gallery wrapped canvas. I love the intense colors! Please excuse the shine of the flash! : )

This picture is sideways. . not sure how to correct it. A tropical Orange orchid.

The center piece for the three section wall piece. Pictures of the entire set will be up soon.
I arrange this on at the top left of the wall piece.
I love the colors in this exotic plant painting. I arrange this on at the top right.
One of my first oil paintings. A simple floral.
These two pictures are of the same painting on flat canvas. The top picture is shown with flash and the lower without. The colors in the top picture are more true than the lower. I LOVE this color of purple!

My first paintings

Here are a few small paintings that I did with acrylic paint. Thanks Meagan Miller for having me over for an all night wine and paint party : ) I miss you already!

A new idea!

Welcome to the new blog! Beginning today I'd like to share my art with the world! Although I am just getting started, I'd like to being sharing my pieces online as a portfolio and also as an easy way for my friends and family to see what I'm up to in California.

So far I have been creating oil paintings for my home. A few custom pieces that I had been dreaming about painting and finally I took the steps to go for it. This first collection is vibrant, energizing, and tropical. As I add to it, I will upload and post as I go. Thanks for viewing something I am passionate about! Let me know what ya'll think!

New Blog Address

Hello Family and Friends!

I needed to change the blog so that it would match up with my email address, which is katelin.k5@gmail.com by the way!

As for now Charlie and I are going to be in San Antonio for the next week then we will slowly be making our way across the country to California. BUT not without a few detours along the way. I'll be back in Colorado for a few weeks and hopefully Charlie will be able to sign out of his base in Mississippi and come get me in Colorado sooner than expected!

Looking forward to keeping yal updated as we move out to Travis AFB in Northern CA. We will miss San Antonio and all the fun nightlife and activities it has to offer!
